Lake Superior State University is a short drive north on I-75 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. LSSU focuses on hands-on experience and prepares “students for a world where the only constant is change.”
North Central Michigan College is just across the Mackinac Bridge and offers 60 career-oriented programs. North Central’s “mission is to provide educational, economic and cultural opportunities for student learning, personal growth, and community improvement.”
Bay Mills Community College offers several certificates and degree programs, through both traditional and on-line formats, in order to prepare students to transition to a four-year institution or into the workforce.
The Les Cheneaux Culinary School provides hands-on learning for full-time students as well as shorter classes open to the community. Committed to local food and sustainable practices, The Les Cheneaux Culinary School helps students and the community alike prepare for the future.
Great Lakes Boat-Building School trains future craftsmen for the maritime trades. It is one of three wooden boat-building schools in the nation, and the only one in the Great Lakes region. GLBBS maintains a placement rating of over 90 percent and is currently in its seventh year.
Great Waters Center for Lifelong Learning is located in St. Ignace and its mission is to “establish a regional campus for higher learning that would provide educational opportunities for students of all ages wishing to pursue college, vocational or enrichment course work.”
